Wisconsin Health System: An Aurora Medical Center worker intentionally corrupted the vaccine

Grafton, Wisconsin – A Wisconsin health system official said Wednesday that 500 doses of the Coronavirus vaccine that had to be discarded after being left uncooled now appear to have been deliberately spoiled by an employee.

Aurora Medical Center first reported the spoiled doses on Saturday, and said a staff member had accidentally left her overnight at its Grafton facility.

In a statement late Wednesday, Aurora said the employee in question “admitted today that he had intended to remove the vaccine from the refrigerator.”

Aurora’s statement said they fired the employee and referred the matter to authorities for further investigation. Their statement said nothing about a possible motive for the measure, and health system officials did not immediately respond to letters requesting more information.

“We still believe that vaccination is our way out of the epidemic. We are very disappointed that the actions of this individual will delay more than 500 people in receiving their vaccination,” the statement said.

Aurora declined to provide additional information, but said it would provide more details on Thursday.
