Elon Musk donated $ 5 million to the Khan Academy educational group
“Elon, I hope you feel good about this,” Khan said in the video. “This will allow us to accelerate all kinds of content. Our aspirations are all topics – from children to early school years. This will accelerate our scientific content, allow us to have more early learning, and allow us to make the program and practice more engaging.”
Founded in 2002, the Musk Foundation supports research in renewable energy, human space exploration, paediatrics, science and engineering.
Khan Academy is a non-profit organization that aims to “provide a free, world-class education to anyone, anywhere.” Students all over the world can use Khan Academy videos, which have been translated into more than 36 languages, and learn at their own pace. Parents and educators also use resources – videos, training exercises, and personalized learning dashboards.
The organization says that as the coronavirus pandemic has forced schools to switch to distance learning, many students and parents who have experienced this shift have turned to Khan Academy for help.
While many students may not recognize Khan’s face, millions of them know Khan through his voice, due to his video lessons on topics ranging from photosynthesis and calculus to the American Revolution.
Khan Academy has over 120 million registered users, with up to 30 million students using the platform every month.
“I see this type of investment in what we do is really essential for us so that we can build a multi-generational enterprise, so that in the future world, Elon Musk can also tap their potential and help us all,” said Khan. “We are on a higher level than we are as a civilization.”
